The online poker room Betfair.com has become the sponsor of the new World Series of Poker franchise, the WSOP Europe. The WSOPE will begin in September in London in casinos owned by London Clubs International (which is in turn owned by WSOP owner Harrah’s) and Betfair is the presenting sponsor. For the first time the ESPN Coverage of the World Series of Poker is going to start before the WSOP finishes. The coverage will kick off on July 10th at 8 pm Eastern Time, while the actual WSOP will continue to run through July 17th, the date of the final table of the Main Event. ESPN will be on hand for that as well, and will be offering a live Pay Per View package for around twenty bucks…

The 38th World Series of Poker has a few weeks yet to go, but the Player of the Year race within the WSOP is almost over. The POY does not include the Main Event, so when the last card is dealt in the last preliminary event the WSOP POY will be chosen.
