BIG NEWS: The field increased to a total of 4,583 players on the third of four starting days at the $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker main event Sunday. Organizers said Day 3 had 1,751 entrants, compared to 1,287 on Friday and 1,545 on Saturday.

Online poker room Titan Poker has announced an upcoming poker event which they claim will be one of the largest for the year. Titan, powered by the Playtech network, will put on a $1,000,000 Guaranteed Prize Tournament on September 9, with satellites starting now. Montel Williams may be a world class humanitarian and all around good guy, but perhaps he should stick to consoling people on his show who happen to the mother, grandmother, and aunt of their own newborn baby. He was one of the participants of Day 1B of the World Series of Poker’s Main Event. If his losing ways continue he will soon be joining Isabelle Mercier and Kathy Liebert in the losers lounge.

Once again the main event of the WSOP is coming a bit under fire for being a “crap shoot”, a reference to the incredible amount of luck needed to win big in a game of craps. There is some irony to the possibility that the main event of the WSOP is a crap shoot, considering it was created to showcase the world’s best poker players.

Compared to last year, the number of players in the 38th annual World Series of Poker is much lower than anticipated. On the first day of the four day long “Day One” just 1,287 players registered, and on Day 1B there were slightly more at 1,546 entrants. That totals just 2,833 players when Harrah’s Entertainment - the owners of the WSOP - had allowed for 3,000 each day…
