In London the World Series of Poker Europe is going to kick off for the first time in September, bringing a global poker brand to the UK, but the World Poker Tour beat the WSOP to the punch. 2007 WSOP - Are Repeat Victories a Thing of the Past?

Any champion of the main event of the World Series of Poker deserves the accolades given to them. Take a look back ten years or more and you’ll see that even though the fields were much, much smaller than they are today, they were almost 100% pro, meaning that at no time was winning the WSOP main event ever easy. However there is one thing that would happen from time to time that seems not to be possible these days - the repeat victory.

2007 WSOP Diary: Day 40, July 10th

If Day 1d of the World Series of Poker Main Event was like the movie Fight Club, then Day 2a bore a bit of a resemblance to the classic television series, The Twilight Zone. The day started with Montel Williams wondering where 5000 of his chips had wandered off to. The number of chips that were in his bag simply didn’t match the number that was written on the bag.

That’s like the oldest cliche in the cliched book of cliches. Everyone knows you don’t compare apples and oranges, except for when you’re making a diet plan, but you should also never, ever compare the metaphorical apples and oranges. But people still do it. They do it a lot. They do it a lot in poker.

Tom Schneider Wins WSOP Player of the Year

The race is over, and the only player to win multiple bracelets at the 2007 World Series of Poker has been named the WSOP Player of the Year. Tom Schneider picked up 255 points with his two victories and one other cash, keeping him ahead of runner up Jeffrey Lisandro by a scant 30 points. In terms of cashes Lisandro led the felid (tied with POY 5th place finisher Phil Hellmuth) with 6, but he won only one bracelet…
