At a popular online poker room, the high stake tables have been quiet lately. A few players log in and play, but there is a general lack of robustness that is customary around these online tables, and that has been primarily due to the fact that David Benyamine went into self-imposed exile. He is back now, and an instant upswing in the number of players at these tables was marked…

When Barry Bonds started a legitimate chase for the greatest record in sports history, this should have been one of baseball’s crowning achievements. Passing Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron on the road to sport immortality would be like calling Alexander Graham Bell on your iPhone to congratulate him on his new invention.

The Card Player Media Player of the Year race has been officially won by David “The Dragon” Pham, but what about the Online Poker Player of the Year race? In the lead is Isaac “westmenloAA” Baron, but his recent surge in points does not give him the lead that Pham had over his competition, and Matt “ch0ppy” Kay is breathing down Baron’s virtual neck. Baron has 8,304 points over Kay’s 8,278, so it looks like Baron will be going for any big win to keep himself out in front. It is unlikely - although not impossible - that current third place runner Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi, with 6,676 points, could overtake the two front runners.Related Articles:David “The Dragon” Pham is Card Player Media poker player of the yearPoker editor fired for cheating…

The last two people of Asian decent to proudly sport the nickname, “The Dragon”, were Bruce Lee and professional wrestler Ricky Steamboat. Let’s face it these two could have called themselves Shirley Temple or Liberace for all it mattered: both of these men could easily mess up the body of an antagonist in ways that only a good, stout Cuisinart could successfully replicate.

It had been a long tough battle. At the final table six great players did their best to win, but in the end there could be only one. A Frenchman, a Swiss player, two Danes and two from Finland had all tried, and then it was down to one Finn and one Dane.

Decisions in poker must be made on the spur of the moment. You have seconds to make a decision that can possibly cost you a large sum of money or win you an even greater sum of money. You have little time to think about what you will do, and you must size up a number of factors before making a decision.

Not every strategy is for every person. Some players are way too conservative to go for a triple bluff, while those who qualify as poker extreme athletes won’t be able to hold back enough to show the sort of restraint that is necessary to succeed against a maniac. Others are just too mentally challenged to figure out any cards that don’t have the word “Uno” printed on the back of them.

All in moves early on in cash games - even No Limit Texas Holdem cash games played by high limit pros - are not a common occurrence. Even those games that are more of a tourney format, like Poker After Dark don’t often see moves like that till later on, or when a player gets short stacked.

Being flushed with success is usually what happens roughly twelve hours after eating your mother-in-law’s holiday roast. Usually this triumph happens in a room with a lot of tile and reading material. In poker, playing for a flush is not an easy thing to do, and there are three common situations where people will find themselves drawing for this particular hand.

Poker players take a number of risks every time they sit down to play in a tournament or a ring game. They risk their own money, reputation, and there’s a constant threat of being referred to as a donkey by guys with large egos who handle bad beats like a three year old that has had their Elmo toy taken away. The ones who seem to have gotten this whole poker thing figured out are the casinos.

The sale of Harrah’s Entertainment - the owner of the World Series of Poker brand - is nearly complete, which begs the question of what will happen to the WSOP. The sale, which is to a couple of private equity firms, rings in the billions, so the firms taking over are certainly counting on the WSOP, along with the rest of the Harrah’s business, to bring in the money. Does this mean they will make big changes in the way the WSOP is going to be run? It does not look like it, as it has been announced that the Chairman and CEO of Harrah’s, Gary Loveman, will be retained, as will WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.Related Articles:39th World Series of Poker starts with Championship eventJosh Arieh takes 2nd at WSOP Circuit event…
