The sale of Harrah’s Entertainment - the owner of the World Series of Poker brand - is nearly complete, which begs the question of what will happen to the WSOP. The sale, which is to a couple of private equity firms, rings in the billions, so the firms taking over are certainly counting on the WSOP, along with the rest of the Harrah’s business, to bring in the money. Does this mean they will make big changes in the way the WSOP is going to be run? It does not look like it, as it has been announced that the Chairman and CEO of Harrah’s, Gary Loveman, will be retained, as will WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.Related Articles:39th World Series of Poker starts with Championship eventJosh Arieh takes 2nd at WSOP Circuit event…

When the situation regarding online poker in the United States came to a head and the UIGEA was passed, some lawmakers felt pleased. Others felt like an injustice had been done, and set out to legalize online poker. When Imper1um won the Tournament Titan, it sort of gave the impression that he was a master at the game of poker - and so he is. He does, however, have a bit of a handicap; he doesn’t play poker by the numbers. Canadian player Sorel Mizzi has come out to say that he doesn’t even know how to figure pot odds, a basic math problem that many poker players also have…

Though nobody is getting killed at the poker table (at least not physically), trying to beat the maniac by becoming just like him is clearly not the way to go. Much like the police, you must use your head. There are some facts you must face when one or more maniacs are at your table.

We all feel pity. Well, unless we’re sociopaths, in which case we just pretend to feel pity. But normal people all feel pity. It’s a natural human condition. We don’t like seeing each other get hurt or suffer a loss. We don’t want to see such things happen. We naturally want everyone to succeed.

When you play poker for days on end, and each day is a slog through hours of grinding out the game, it can get pretty exhausting. If you make it to a final table you usually get pumped up, but then it can get tiring again, causing you to loose focus. Two men who did not have this problem were Jani Sointula and Christian Grundtvig.

At a time when the state of online poker is iffy in a number of countries, reports of poker rooms stiffing players and licensees is bad for business, but even worse would be these reports being swept under the rug. According to various online sources, Playsafe Holdings is being accused of withholding payments to four online poker players and two licensees. The company is a publicly traded online poker company and turnkey software provider from Norway that works with Point-Spreads.com, which reported in August of this year that they were having trouble getting payments, and according to recent statements by their COO that is still the case.Related Articles:Online poker money makes banks anxiousNew Zealand investigates poker commercial…

Peacocks are all show and no go. Sure, they look great and stare at us with that “I’m better’n you” look while fanning out their tail feathers, but they can’t fly, have a singing voice that makes them the “tiny tim” of songbirds, and really don’t have enough meat on them to satisfy any appetite bigger than that of a dieting supermodel. This may make the peacock a subpar bird, but qualifies it as the perfect mascot for NBC. Nothing points out this fact more than their choices for the 2008 NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Some people play poker by feel and instinct. Unfortunately, a lot of newer players don’t have the experience to have honed their “feel” for the game, and regrettably human instincts occasionally tell us we can save the world by purchasing ridiculous little electric cars and that eating a whole bag of Oreos is a good idea. Thankfully in order to help make some of poker’s more difficult decisions a little easier, somebody came up with the concept of pot odds.

Part of playing successful poker is knowing how to maneuver your opponents into disadvantageous positions. You can’t rely on just luck to win you the game, you need to be able to manipulate your foes and force them into positions where even if their luck is outstanding, they can’t take advantage of it.
