What the Gray Mouser Can Teach You About Holdem

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

Never as popular as Tolkien or Howard, Fritz Leiber nonetheless created one of the most memorable pairs of fantasy adventurers to ever cross the pages of literature. Fafhrd, the tall barbarian we’ll leave alone for now and instead focus on his smaller, darker companion, the Gray Mouser. The Gray Mouser is the most successful independent thief in all of Lankhmar. But the Gray Mouser isn’t the strong half of the pair, instead, he relies on skills, wits, and cunning. The very things one must rely on when playing Holdem.

Statistically Speaking

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

The WPT seems to like to think of itself on the same level with leagues like the NFL, NHL, MLB, and the NBA. This may or may not be true. Let’s face it, all the poker players who participate in the WPT combined don’t have the arrest record to match the Cincinnati Bengals, or even the impressive one put up by the NBA’s Ron Artest. On the other side of the coin though, they do have better television ratings than the NHL and a large percentage of televised baseball games, so maybe they can be mentioned in the same breath with the big boys.

Beating the Spread

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

When you gamble on sports games, you are often trying to beat the spread, the points difference your bookie has established as the most likely outcome of the game. Often, beating the spread will reward you just as much as winning outright, and it’s a pleasant outcome no matter what your winnings are. In poker, you can also look at a sort of spread that exists.

Playing a Mid-Sized Pair

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

Let’s say your hole cards are a pair of 9s. This is not a hand that does very well in a multi-way pot; there are just too many ways to beat your duet of mid-sized cards. You can either play tight and fold, or you can play your hand. If you are going to play the 9s, you’re going to want to isolate yourself against one or two other players.

Protecting a Strong Pair

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

Very rarely do we think of poker when it comes to the topic of protection, especially when we are dealing with hole cards that are a pair of Aces or Kings. These are generally perceived as the type of cards that can take care of themselves. The truth is that a flop can take the steam out of these cards very quickly and put the holder of the powerful hole cards on the defensive.

WSOP Radio

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

A long time ago Howard Stern declared himself the King of All Media. Now with all due respect to Mr. Stern, he could declare himself Grand Poobah of the Eloi or Emperor of the Mason Dixon line and it still wouldn’t be true. If all it takes to be the King of All Media is appearances in movies, on television, and the radio, with a book deal thrown in for good measure, then Hulk Hogan or Danny Bonaduce would also have a claim to the thrown. Regardless of who currently wears the crown, the WSOP is making a run as the monarch of the media industry.
