US State Approves “Church Poker”

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

In South Carolina churches are a big deal, which is not surprising for a US state that is commonly referred to as part of the “Bible Belt.” What may be surprising is that poker has been given the green light as long as the cards are being dealt by a church. The recent shift in legislation is away from a 200 year old law that prohibits card games, and will allow churches and other non profit groups to host poker games to raise funds. The upshot of the law means that home games remain illegal, but games of Texas Holdem are fine if played during a church fundraiser.Related Articles:Casinos get green light for poker in MacauSwedish tax board eyes poker players for tax evasion…

Playing with a Middle Stack

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

Tournament poker is a marathon, not a sprint. The end result of this race is to be the last person standing with all chips at the end of the day, and how we get there is the question. There are as many different approaches to a tournament as there are personalities playing the game. While nobody is going to say no if offered the chip lead in a tournament, there are benefits of playing with a mid-sized stack in front of you.

Going All In

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

Going all in was at one time the last act of a desperate player. It was their final defense against the possibility of elimination in a tournament. Like a frilled lizard displaying its brightly colored neck decoration in order to warn opponents off, the all in bet was used to put an aggressor on notice that if they decide to continue with their hand, it might cost them dearly. As the internet became an incubator for more aggressive players, we started to see the all in bet used more and more as an offensive weapon.

Unreality TV

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts

As all of us know, poker television is an incredibly popular entertainment genre. It is not quite as popular as “The Flavor of Love”, but how do you compete against a show where 20 women of questionable moral fiber fight for the love of an overachieving crack addict? When we are watching any of the plethora of tournaments and cash games that litter the cable television channels, are we really seeing an accurate portrayal of good poker?

Poker After Dark - Caution on the River

Published by webmaster under Blog Posts
