In South Carolina churches are a big deal, which is not surprising for a US state that is commonly referred to as part of the “Bible Belt.” What may be surprising is that poker has been given the green light as long as the cards are being dealt by a church. The recent shift in legislation is away from a 200 year old law that prohibits card games, and will allow churches and other non profit groups to host poker games to raise funds. Going all in was at one time the last act of a desperate player. It was their final defense against the possibility of elimination in a tournament.
