A Marion County poker game that erupted in gunfire last week resulted in the deaths of three men. The man arrested and accused with pulling the trigger is one Duane Demaris Crittenden II, 28, who claims he was cheated. Poker is unique in many ways. Unlike reporting taxes to the IRS or anything having to do with the opposite sex, lying is actually encouraged in poker. They use the cute little term “bluffing” but it is the same thing. Bluffing against a field of players is one thing, but it is completely different when you are in a heads up game and you’re the sole focus of your opponent.

When you are figuring out your pot odds leading up to a decision in a poker hand, how do you do it? Do you figure out what your odds of winning the hand are by counting outs, then figure out how much money is in the pot and how much you are being asked to call, and then compare the two calculations? If you are, you are doing it right, but if you add a third step of factoring in what you have already invested, you are heading down the wrong path.
